Submersion is a concept that is highly individual to the thinker trying to define its concept. Literally meaning to go under. Going Under is both natural and performative. It is in many cases far from submissive but rather revolutionary. Submersion is at its core going right down to the belly of the beast. Understanding, the present, past,  a new thought or for some an attempt to create a new path or way of life. Submersion is inherently an autobiographical experience waiting to be published, photographed or portrayed. In submersion we can be playful, daring, intellectually curious and going under is to bridge the line between the individual and new environments surrounding them. In wearing a mask, while our nose and mouth are submerged, the imprint created by them has created a new self portrait of ourselves, in a similar way I found these mini self-portraits to remind me of my time in the sea, watching the shores go back and forth. In being submerged, the sensory experience becomes individualistic. In communicating, writing and trying to overcome the art of improper use of language is being submerged. We are a explorer of sorts attempting to understand or break the puzzles facing us today. Submersion can also be dark, geopolitical and difficult to muster, as seen upon the transatlantic route for decades, and more recently off the shores of Lampedusa and Lesbos in which in being submerged, was a last hope for a political stability and economic opportunities waiting ashore. Being Submerged is an act, mathematical theorem, moment of life, and in some cases of a conclusion. This series aims to open a small glimpse into the possibilities of how submersion operates and rather opens larger questions just waiting to be explored.
